Volunteer Recruitment

Do you have a passion for science?

The Science Centre Singapore is looking for volunteers 14 years of age and above.

We offer you a chance to:

  • put your scientific knowledge to good use.
  • benefit the general public with a better understanding of science.
  • interact with people from all walks of life and age groups.

Basic Requirements:

  • at least 14 years of age (by year).
  • interested in Science.
  • good communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to work with people of various ages.
  • interested in presenting science and technology to the public.
  • enthusiastic and friendly attitude.
  • strong commitment to providing a high standard to visitor service.
  • willingness to undergo training.

Volunteer Training and Commitment

All volunteers are required to:

  • commit to a minimum of 6 sessions of volunteering service in 6 months.
  • attend training before they start. Details for these sessions will be shared with successful applicants later.

    • You will be required to submit your curriculum vitae/resume during this registration.
    • For applicants under the age of 18, fill in the consent form and obtain your parent’s/guardian’s signature. Submit the consent form during this registration.
  2. Shortlisted applicants will be invited for a chat session after we have processed your application.
  3. After the chat session, successful applicants will be informed of the training session details.

* Registration will be opened from 1 - 24 Dec 2021.
+ Successful applications will have to pay a one-time fee: $30.00. This cost covers the volunteer training programmes and volunteer engagement programmes.

Brief description

Engage and interact with guests at the Science Centre Singapore; volunteers get to choose something that they are passionate about, ranging from facilitation of simple art and craft activities, gallery facilitation to being observatory and nature guide.

Engage and interact with guests at the Science Centre Singapore; facilitation of simple art and craft activities, which include simple science concepts.

The student is attached to a staff mentor and will shadow the mentor in their job scope, which may also include engagement and interaction with guests.

Basic Requirements

  • At least 14 years of age (by year)
  • Must attend a training session before they start.

  • Recommended by school teachers
  • Must attend an informal interview with Science Centre Singapore staff mentors before being accepted into the programme.

Cost

  • $30 (administrative charges) / pax
  • No limit to the number of students
  • $5 (administrative charges) / pax
  • Min. 20 pax/ max. 40 pax + with teacher(s) commitment
  • No cost to apply
  • Limit of students is based on the number of available placements – each school usually sends 2 to 4 students

Timeframe

  • Up to the individual’s schedule
  • Many individual sessions of a period of time, maybe a few months to years.
  • Spans over 2.5 days, to be completed within 1 month, usually occurring during school holidays.
  • One singular block of a minimum of 2 weeks (10 working days)

Duration

  • Each session is 3 hours
    Students must commit to the full session, but need not sign up for multiple sessions in a day/week
  • During the school term: Fridays to Sundays 10.00 am to 1.00 pm & 2.00 pm to 5.00 pm
  • During public and school holidays: Fridays to Sundays 10.00 am to 1.00 pm & 2.00 pm to 5.00 pm

Training: 0.5 day

Service session: 2 days

Training hours: 9.00 am to 12.00 pm OR 2.30 pm to 5.30 pm

Service hours: 9.30 am to 6.00 pm

  

The full working day of 7 hours including 1-hour lunchtime.

Students must commit all working days and hours

Working hours:

  • 9.00 am to 5.00 pm OR
  • 9.30 am to 5.30 pm
