Join us for this special event with OceanX, an ocean exploration organisation which aims to unlock the ocean's sustainable potential through science and education. Learn about groundbreaking technologies and the people who make ocean exploration on the high seas and deep seas possible.

Frances Loke Wei
Education Program Manager, OceanX
The ocean is the lifeblood of our planet, yet much of it remains unexplored and unknown.
As the Education Program Manager at OceanX, Frances works to transform how people understand and relate to the largest habitat on our planet. In collaboration with governments, academic institutions, and cultural organizations, she delivers programs designed to increase ocean literacy, develop ocean career pathways, and inspire people to take ocean-positive action.

Lionel Taillens
Creative Technical Lead, OceanX
What if you could pilot a deep-sea submersible or feed a virtual manta ray with just a wave of your hand? At Science Café, Lionel Taillens explores how immersive technology brings ocean science to life for students and the public.
Lionel leads immersive media at OceanX Education, collaborating with scientists, students, and creative studios to turn ocean research into interactive learning experiences. He showcases two curriculum-ready tools: Dive & Discover Malaysia, a 180° dome adventure simulating a submersible mission through Malaysian ecosystems, and Wave & Discover, a gesture-controlled aquarium that lets you interact with deep-sea creatures in real time. Both experiences combine real data, storytelling, and technology to spark curiosity and strengthen ocean literacy among youth and educators.

Jeremy Kruis
Media Technology Officer, OceanX
At this Science Café, Jeremy leads a livestream from the research vessel OceanXplorer to share who is on board and the technologies used to explore the ocean.
As a Media Technology Officer, Jeremy ensures that all media equipment is operational, orients media personnel on board, and assists with filming, file organization, and video editing. Originally from the beautiful island of Siargao in the Philippines, Jeremy has filmed numerous short documentaries across the Philippines capturing unique stories and characters. If you have been following @oceanx on social media, you would have seen some of Jeremy's work!
