We offer numerous volunteering opportunities at Science Centre Singapore for people with and without a background in science.

If you enjoy interacting with people of all ages and are interested in creating meaningful science-learning experiences for visitors to the Science Centre, we welcome you to get in touch with us.

Individual Volunteer

Individual Volunteer

Volunteer Type:

Regular Volunteer

Individuals must be willing to commit for at least one year.

Pre-requisites:

  • 14 years old and above
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Commitment to delivering a high standard of visitor service
  • Undergo onboarding session and pass the selection process

Group Volunteer

Group Volunteer

Volunteer Type:

Seasonal Volunteer (one-time)

E.g., Student groups fulfilling VIA hours or corporates volunteering as a group

Pre-requisites:

  • Groups of 3 to 5*
  • Complete at least one full shift (3 to 8 hours)

*If your group size is less than 3, please register as Individual Volunteers.

SWAP1

Student Work Attachment Programme (SWAP)

The Student Work Attachment Programme (SWAP) provides students with valuable insights into working life at Science Centre Singapore. Students will shadow a staff mentor to learn about job responsibilities and daily operations. SWAP intakes typically run in January, June-July, and October-December.

Pre-requisites:

  • Minimum age: 15 years old (by calendar year)
  • Commitment: At least 2 consecutive weeks (10 workdays)
  • Teacher involvement required
  • Willingness to learn and receptive to mentor's feedback

FAQ for Volunteers

Volunteer hours served at Science Centre Singapore are VIA applicable. 

You may register as we follow the calendar year, and not date of birth.

We welcome volunteers of all backgrounds, regardless of citizenship, provided you are over 14 years old. We would be delighted to have you on board as a volunteer.

We appreciate your enthusiasm to join our volunteer team. We process volunteer applications monthly. Our team will contact you at volunteers@science.edu.sg with onboarding details.

Yes, we do provide volunteer certificates upon request.

The role of a volunteer involves a variety of tasks depending on the specific event or program you're participating in. Generally, volunteers assist with activities such as event setup, registration, facilitation, and helping with general operations.

Scope will be communicated when we announce the call for volunteers, and we ensure that volunteers will be given clear instructions and ample training where necessary.

No prior science knowledge? No problem! We welcome individuals from all backgrounds. We provide comprehensive training to all volunteers before they begin their roles, ensuring everyone is well-prepared regardless of their background.
