Ever wondered what happens when the ocean glows at your touch?

Glowing Oceans is Asia's first full-scale living bioluminescence exhibition and is coming to Science Centre Singapore. Bioluminescent blooms have occasionally lit up Singapore's shores in recent years but in the wild, city lights usually wash the glow out before anyone notices. Science Centre has built a fully dark-adapted environment so you can wade through glowing water, swirl live dinoflagellates at the touch tanks, and see the real science behind the living light up close.

Wade Through Bioluminescent Water at the Lagoon (wet experience)

Glowing Oceans' signature experience. Slip on your booties and wade right into a living body of water, watching each step ignite a breathtaking trail of sapphire-blue light beneath your feet.

Touch Tables, the Interactive Bioluminescence Pool (wet experience)

Dip your hands in and swirl the water gently. Watch organisms respond instantly with your movement, lighting up right before your eyes. 

Dimitri’s Desk, the Bioluminescence Research Office (dry experience)

Step into the workspace of a real bioluminescence researcher. Explore the field tools, explore lab notes, and test your knowledge on Dimitri's very own computer desktop. Look up at the glass jars to see holographic displays of deep-sea glowing creatures that use light to camouflage, communicate, and find one another in the absolute darkness of the deep. 

Encounter Dinoflagellates at the Darwin’s Cove (dry experience)

Travel back to the moment Charles Darwin first encountered bioluminescent dinoflagellates. Through an animated story, trace his journey across oceans and discover the vital roles these extraordinary living light-makers play in keeping the oceans alive today 

What you need to know before visiting Glowing Oceans

It is highly recommended to arrive about 15 minutes before your scheduled session to allow sufficient time for check-in and ensure a smooth experience.

This experience is not suitable for children under 4 years of age. Children above 4 years old must be supervised by an adult at all times. For school groups, teachers and chaperones must maintain a minimum supervision ratio of 1 adult to every 20 students.
 

Bulky items such as strollers, wagons, tripods, luggage, and similar-sized items are not permitted inside the exhibition. Guests are encouraged to store these items at the chargeable lockers before entering. 

The exhibition features dark and enclosed spaces. Guests who are uncomfortable in such environments are advised not to participate.
Guests with sensitive skin or skin conditions, especially on hands or feet, are advised to exercise discretion before participating. [GS9.1][GS9.2]Guests are also advised to remove accessories such as bracelets, anklets and necklaces to avoid contamination

Wear comfortable, flat and closed-toe footwear. High heels, slippers, sandals and shoes that may be difficult to walk in are not recommended. 
 
The exhibit includes shallow water areas and touch pools. We recommend wearing clothes you can easily adjust, like rolling up your pants and sleeves. You may also wish to bring a towel to dry your hands after washing them.

Guests will be provided with booties to cover their footwear upon entry. These are available in general sizes for adults and children only, subject to availability, and must be returned at the end of the experience. No swimming, sitting, or laying in the water is allowed.

All guests are required to wash their hands with soap and water at the designated handwash stations before entering the experience. Washing hands after the experience is strongly encouraged. Guests are advised not to apply any lotions, sunscreen or other similar products on their hands and arms prior to the experience. 

Photography and videography are welcome; however, the usage of flash is strictly prohibited. Guests are responsible for their personal belongings, including mobile devices and cameras, and SCS shall not be held liable for any loss or damage incurred during the visit.

Strictly no food and drinks are allowed within the exhibition galleries, including Glowing Oceans.
