What's the Music and String Theory?
Most of us have heard about string theory, but what is it about actually? And how can science concepts inspire works of art, and vice versa?
Join us to find out more from an expert – A/Prof Tan, NUS Head, String Theory Group – as well as award-winning composer Joyce Koh, whose creative impulses are underpinned by scientific theories.
What is the purpose of inter-disciplinary collaborations? What can scientists and artists learn from each other’s work?

Associate Professor Tan Meng-Chwan
Assistant Dean (Outreach and Admissions), Head, NUS String Theory Group, National University of Singapore.
String Theory: A Flash Introduction
String Theory is the leading candidate for Einstein's dream of a "Theory of Everything", a unified theory of all the four fundamental forces of the universe which underlie every physical and therefore scientific phenomenon in nature. In this talk, I will give a flash introduction to String Theory, and its role in revealing the origins of the universe.

Dr Joyce Koh Beetuan
Associate Dean, School of Interdisciplinary Arts and Associate Dean (Technology and Sustainability Research), Research Division
In Search of the Music of String Theory
What if we could hear the fundamental building blocks of our universe? Intrigued by string theory, I would like to share how an aural imagination of the phenomenon is translated into musical expressions in my multimedia work, ‘On the String’.
