Art of Tinkering: Exploring Creativity through Hands-On Learning

Join us for an immersive journey into the Art of Tinkering, where you'll delve deep into the world of open-ended exploration and problem-solving. Chemistry in Cosmetics

Is it true that only women use cosmetics? It is a common misconception to agree with this. Both men and women use them one way or another. In this workshop, participants will learn the science behind three different types of cosmetics:

1. Shower gel
2. Lip balm
3. Sunblock

Participants will also investigate and experiment with the products made!

Forensic Science: Every contact leaves a trace

Forensic science draws on many disciplines, all focused on solving crimes. Many TV shows have popularised forensic science through crime scene investigation dramas. How much of reality is reflected in these shows? In this workshop, participants will make practical observations and deductions while carrying out forensic techniques such as:

1. Fingerprinting
2. DNA Profiling
3. Ink Chromatography
4. Identification of Blood

Molecular Gastronomy

Cooking is both science and art, and celebrity chefs have seeped their way into popular culture. People are realising that by understanding the chemistry behind various cooking methods, we can not only avoid common mistakes, but make food taste so much better. Molecular gastronomy is a recent buzzword that has hit food circles. Come learn what it is all about. Participants will learn different techniques to create food that combines science and art.

Objectives:

1. Describe what molecular gastronomy is.
2. Briefly outline the steps of two molecular gastronomy techniques:
   • spherification
   • gelification
3. Create food using spherification and gelification.
4. Recognise the importance of science and technology in food.

Science of Ice Cream

Everybody loves eating ice cream. But have you ever wondered what goes into making the perfect ice cream? In this workshop, participants will learn more about the science behind each ingredient and prepare their own ice cream using various freezing methods.

In this workshop, participants will understand the significance of:

1. Emulsification
2. Hydrophobic and hydrophilic interactions

You will also experiment with the ingredients provided to make ice-cream to your liking. Join us to have an excuse to “play” with your food!
