
Presented by Temasek Foundation and organised by Science Centre Singapore, the Young Sustainability Champion programme aims to raise awareness, encourage, and inspire students to develop creative solutions around critical topics relating to Environmental Science and Innovation, in line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The programme allows participants to get onboard Science Centre Singapore’s new online “I am a Young Scientist” platform (https://youngscientist.sscglobal.com.sg) and complete the core sustainability-related tasks. Participants who have successfully completed the programme will be recognised and presented with badges and e-certificates. Furthermore, there will be additional competition and showcase opportunities available for outstanding participants.

Yes, “I am a Young Sustainability Champion” is a free online certificate and badge programme. Individuals and families can register at
https://youngscientist.sscglobal.com.sg and create an account.The programme will be automatically added to your dashboard.

This programme is open to local and international participants. There are two different categories being offered. Junior track is open for participants from 7-12 years old, participants under 10 will require the guidance of an adult. Senior track is open for participants from 13-17 years old.

Complete the programme with a grade of 15 or more to earn " I am a Young Sustainability Champion" badge and receive e-certificate.

Out of the 20 tasks, participants can decide on the tasks to work on and complete with a grade of 15 or more to earn the badge and e-certificate. The activities are allocated with 1, 2 or 3 trophies, with 3 trophies being the most challenging.

We have a team of Science educators who will be grading and sending comments if there is revision required.

For students below 10 years old, parental supervision are encouraged and promotes bonding time as there are activities that can be done at the comfort of home.
Winning Teams from 2019
Three teams of students emerged victorious from the Young Technopreneurs for a Sustainable 2030 Challenge in October 2019.
- Fiper(Fruit Paper)
It turns fruit peels into the paper by soaking it in soda ash, blending it, and pressing it.
- Ecobox
Ecobox is completely made of biodegradable material and can be recycled many times. It also has utensils on the lid so it becomes an all-in-one box.
- Washing Recyclable Bottles
An exhibit prototype of a robotic system that can be used to wash plastic bottles before they are recycled, encouraging and educating people not to throw contaminated waste in recycling bins.
