Participants will learn a variety of molecular biology and microbiology techniques and understand some of their real life applications. Some key scientific skills introduced: 

•   Micropipetting
•   Plating Method
•   DNA fingerprinting (Agarose Gel Electrophoresis) 
•   Bacteria Gram Staining
•   Microscopy 

Learning objectives:

1. Learn some scientific techniques used in forensic analysis 

a.   Perform DNA extraction and polymerase chain reaction to amplify DNA
b.   Aseptic technique to grow bacteria that may give clues/ hints about crime scene
c.   Micropipette to work with small amount of volume to carry out forensic experiment
d.   Microscope to examine microorganisms related to crime scene
e.   Agarose gel electrophoresis to analyse DNA 
f.   Other simple experiments to analyse forensic evidence

2. Understand the application of STR and VNTR in DNA profiling

3. Introduction to bacteriology

a.    Identification of bacteria 
b.    Classification of bacteria
