Perfumes have a long history of almost 4000 years! Since the first perfume was recorded in ancient Egypt, perfumery has certainly evolved greatly. With a greater understanding of the science behind perfumery, we have a great range of perfumes and an even greater range of use for perfumery. In this hands-on lesson, explore some of the many methods of formulating perfumes and learn about the chemistry behind the fascinating world of fragrances and scents. Finally, you will get a chance to formulate your very own perfumes to bring home!

Objectives:
1. Explain that substances can be extracted and separated through the following techniques : filtration 
2. Describe a chemical reaction as a process that leads to the formation of new products
3. state some commercial uses of esters, e.g. perfumes, flavourings;solvents
4. Organic Chemistry � Reaction between Alcohols and Carboxylic Acids, formation of Esters (Creating An Ester)
