27 - 28 Nov 2018, 9am to 5pm
CRADLE Lab, Science Centre Singapore

Welcome to the Centre for Research and Applied Learning in science's second S.M.A.R.T Camp on Robotics!

In this two-day camp, we will explore actuators, electronics and computer algorithms that make robots work, assemble a robot from scratch, and program it to manipulate objects.

We will also hear views from a robot industry insider and get to program and operate an industrial robot! At the end of the course, participants will receive a certificate of completion.

This camp is open to both students and public with a foundation in mathematics and science of at least upper secondary school level.

CRADLE S.M.A.R.T. Camp – Robotics Reassembled

Day 1 – Day 2 (AM)The camp provides a hands-on introduction to the basic technologies used in robotics:
- Mechanical systems (gears, levers, …)
- Electromechanical actuators (such as Servo and stepper motors)
- Electronics needed to drive actuators
- Microcontroller programming to provide basic functions such as control the actuators (i.e. simple motions)
- Higher-level robot application programming in Python
Participants will assemble a robotic gripper arm from its components, implement basic operations on a microcontroller platform, and finally use Python code to let the robot arm achieve a given task.
Day 2 (NOON)A lunch talk from a robotics industry insider is planned for the second day.
Day 2 (PM)Participants will be introduced to an industrial 6-axis robot and discuss the relevance of them (at least 6 degrees of freedom needed to assume an arbitrary position and orientation in 3D space). They will program the robot to achieve a given task.

Lunch is provided on both days.
