Q14173 : The xylem vessels are dead without protoplasm for efficient transport of water in the plants. Water is drawn up the vessels. However for phloem vessels, it is made up of elongated cells and transport manufactured food by the cells through diffusion. My question is why the structure of the xylem vessels is not like the phloem or vice-versa? For example, why xylem vessels is not make up of cells and transport water through osmosis? Why phloem vessels is not empty without protoplasm, so that transportation of food is faster?

Some claim that due to this property, chlorophyll can detox our blood and that a diet containing chlorophyll can have the effect of a blood transfusion! However, when the chlorophyll is digested in our guts, what kind of molecule is it being broken down to? And what is absorbed as nutrient?
Q12655 : I am a school student doing a project on plants. I am doing an experiment on what type of light is best for plants to photosynthesis best. I am half way through and so far my studies have led me to believe that green light is the worst kind of light for photosynthesis. Can you come up with a reasonable answer to why this happens?
