This hands-on children's science exhibition is designed for children between 4-12 years of age. With its varied and innovative exhibits pitched at various levels of comprehension, Discovery Zone will certainly provide a creative and early introduction to science for the young.
The message here is clear: science is extremely exciting and lots of fun. The exhibits are designed to encourage learning through play.
The exhibits cover a diverse range of topics to cater to curious minds and to help answer the why, how and what - questions that are ever present in young inquiring minds.
Objectives of the exhibition:
- to stimulate cognitive thinking in children in their early years
- to expose children to new and dramatic experiences in science
- to encourage effective learning through discovery, inquiry and active interaction
- to encourage a constant appreciation of science and its application to everyday life
- to initiate children to explore further on their own
The Exhibition consists of 5 areas:
|
Making Sense Music beams, duck-in kaleidoscope, speaking tubes and smell boxes are some of the exhibits that combine to make this area a multi-sensory experience. Children explore their senses to find out more about themselves.
|
It's ShowTime Experience the magic of movie-making with a live TV Studio. The fully functioning TV studio is made up of a stage set with chromakey effect and a production unit that includes cameras and a control desk for movie editing.
|
Things Alive Come face to face with living creatures in a crawl-through, or walk through an insectarium. Children explore the wonders of living things and learn about caring for nature.
Water Play Pump water in various ways, channel water, move water to another level, race boats and make waves.
The Lab Hands-on activities encourage both self-exploration and group participation. This area allows children to explore and discover science on their own.
Highlight of the exhibition:
Be a star for the day at the Discovery Zone's fully functioning TV Studio.
Dress up and act in front of the cameras or be a journalist and reveal the latest CDC-TV news. If you'd rather be behind the camera, a camera operator's is just for you. Or, you can be a director and run the whole TV production. Try out the special effects at the Control desk as a technical specialist.
Discover science while playing with the exhibits in Waterplay.
Crank the handles of a peristaltic pump, a rag-and-chain pump, an archimedes' screw and a plunger pump to raise water up pipes. Watch the water spill into a bowl which eventually tips over.
