The Sony Creative Science Award (SCSA) is back! Into its 13th year, this competition is your chance to use your wild imagination to design and build your very own toy! Toys are fun and can positively impact your development. SCSA gives you the opportunity to create a unique toy in a supportive environment, helping you develop lateral thinking skills and confidence through your invention.

It's time to unleash your creativity! Register for SCSA 2010 now as an individual or get a friend to join you in creating your very own unique toy.

The competition is divided into two categories:

  • ScizKid Award is an open category which comprises of 2 sections- "Primary 1 & 2" and "Primary 3-6". Participants are required to submit toys that are safe to construct and play with. Toys need not follow any particular theme, participants are allowed to choose any suitable materials to create a toy, as long as the toy demonstrates at least one scientific principle.
  • WhizKid Award has a theme of I can dance. Make a toy which produces some dance movements or even a toy which can make people dance. Participants need not restrict to a certain number of dance movements and types of dance movements. Toys can be of any suitable materials, as long as the toy demonstrates at least one scientific principle.

The Best Multi-Player Toy Award, which was introduced in 2009, continues this year to encourage participants to build a fun and interactive toy that requires at least two players! This award can be under either ScizKid Award or WhizKid Award.

About SCSA

The Sony Creative Science Award or SCSA is a competition for primary school children in Singapore. The theme every year has been "Creative Toys".

In this competition, you are invited to use your imagination and creativity to make toys that demostrate scientific principles.

The aim of the SCSA is to develop and promote interest as well as creativity in science among primary school children in the country.

Let's hear from Dr Chew...
The contest is the only one of its kind in Singapore. About 3000 entries from 100 primary schools (about half of the primary schools in Singapore) are received each year, making this competition very popular with students.

The registration for SCSA 2010 is now open!
