Dugong (Dugong dugon)

This marine mammal grows to a length of 3 m, and there have been recent isolated instances of dead examples being washed up on Singapore beaches. The Dugong lives in shallow water and feeds largely on seagrass. It is particularly vulnerable to being fatally slashed by the propellers of passing motor boats. In addition, it is also threatened by water pollution, illegal hunting, habitat destruction, and drowning as a result of being trapped in fishing nets.
