![]() ![]() Primary Science Learning Experience PS–29 Air Cannon ![]() TRY THIS Point the cannon. Pull the rope and release. DO NOT aim the cannon at anyone's head, face or ear. WHAT IS HAPPENING Because air is matter, ie it has mass and occupies space, the flexing membrane pushes the air immediately in front of it against air farther forward. This creates a pulse of compressed air the width of the cannon diameter. This pulse leaves the cannon through the narrow hole and remains a pulse of compressed air that travels in the direction the cannon points. The target feels the pulse. The pulse cannot travel long distances. Why? |
