PS–12   Material Property – Transparency
Click this picture to return to the Listing of Exhibits.

TRY THIS
Turn the wheel until you see the light through a sample. Can the light source (bulb) be seen clearly? Try the other samples.

WHAT IS HAPPENING
A material is transparent when the bulb can be seen clearly through it. eg: glass display cases, certain window materials, spectacles. A material is opaque when no light can pass through it. A material is translucent when some light passes through. eg: frosted glass, stained glass. The light that passes through a translucent material is diffused or scattered by the material so objects on the other side cannot be seen clearly.
