Butterflies Up-Close Exhibition: Open from 30 Apr 2016 

Exhibition Description 

Butterflies Up-Close invites you to experience the fascinating transformation of a butterfly from an egg to a beautiful winged adult. With only around 1 in 20 eggs making it to adulthood, the butterfly is met with numerous dangers and threats during each stage of its life cycle. You will get to gain a deeper insight on how the butterfly behaves, interacts with the surroundings, and survives each stage of its life cycle to reach adulthood.

Guided Tour (Pre-School Level)
Description This field trip promises to be an adventure where your students will delight in being surrounded by countless live butterflies from around the region!

Each student will be provided with a Trail Booklet to enhance his/her learning experience. The topics include: diversity of butterflies, life cycle of butterfly, adaptations.

    Flying with Butterflies (Primary Level)
    Description We have all learnt about how butterflies transition through the four different stages of their life cycle, but will all of them survive to adulthood? Marvel at the diversity of these seemingly simple looking creatures and follow them on their journey through life as they deal with all the challenges which Mother Nature has for them. Students may get a chance to have some first-hand experience with the butterflies, and will get to know some new fluttery friends by the end of this session. They will also get to view butterfly specimens under microscopes to learn more about special parts of the butterflies which help them to survive!

    Guided Tour (Secondary Level)
    Description Learn about the life cycle of butterflies. Enjoy a guided tour of our exhibits and have a close up look at live butterflies and seasonal insects.

    Each student will receive a trail booklet as well as a Butterfly Species Identification Guide to accompany their gallery visit. Learning points in the booklet include taxonomy, reflection and colour, biomimicry and impact of climate change.

    Target Audience Secondary School students
    Topics Life Cycle of Butterflies, Differences between butterfly and moth, Distinctive features of seasonal insects
    Group size 20 minimum, 40 maximum
    Duration 45 to 60 minutes
    Time 9.30am, 11am, 2.30pm (Each time slot can take about 3 groups of students)
    Admission Fee $6 per student (BU Admission fees). Separate admission charges to Science Centre apply to Non-Institutional School Members.
