Tan Kah Kee Young Inventors' Award 2012

The Tan Kah Kee Young Inventors' Award has been in existence since 1986 to laude inventors for their inventions that are original, practical and which can be commercialised to generate wealth for the country.
Tan Kah Kee Young Inventors' Award is jointly organised by the Tan Kah Kee Foundation, the Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*STAR) and the Defence Science and Technology Agency (DSTA) with the support of the Science Centre Singapore (SCS).
The Tan Kah Kee Young Inventors' Award seeks to stimulate creativity amongst the young and to promote scientific and technological research in Singapore.

Inventors' Week Programmes 2012
This year, we are organising the Inventors’ Week Programmes 2012 in conjunction with the Tan Kah Kee Inventors’ Award. A range of fun and innovative programmes for your students are lined up from 28 May 2012 – 1 June 2012. We have tailored some activities and a gallery trail to nurture our young inventors.
| INVENT! GALLERY TRAIL |

Description |
The Invent! Gallery Trail has been specially designed to allow students to explore and find out more about the creative idea and the inventive spirit. The worksheet has been designed to be used by students to explore the Invent! Exhibition at the Science Centre. Come and explore why we are driven to invent, and how we can make use of our innate characteristics like curiosity, perseverance, and the ability to make connections to help us invent.
After the Invent! Gallery Trail students should view the TKK YIA 2012 winning entries in the exhibition gallery (Annexe Hall 3). |

Description |

| The Tower Challenge – ON-THE-SPOT COMPETITION |

Description |
Students will be required to work with limited fragile or brittle materials to construct a tower –like structure that is capable to support heavy object. The objective for the students is to build the tallest and strongest tower within a specific time limit and space given. In this activity, students will learn and apply their understanding of forces and architectural design. Upon completion, it will be tested on-the-spot. Winning teams will then be given souvenirs. |
