Mindfest

MindFest is an annual festival, organised by the Science Centre Singapore with the aim to bring together “playful inventors” of all ages.  Now into its 7th year at the Science Centre,  participants of MindFest 2012 can choose from several exciting activities listed below.

Mindfest 2012 will only be open to school bookings from 19 March to 23 March and 27 March to 29 March. Public can join the activities on 24 and 25 March. For clarification on school booking queries, please email schools@science.edu.sg.

Air Cannon  

Ever wonder how air vortices look like? Or move a foam cup from a distance without even touching it? Explore the wonder of air power and see how it behaves. Blow your friends away with this amazingly easy to do air cannon box!

Air Rocket 

Design and craft a rocket using simple materials.
The 'fuel' is the air surrounding us. Learn how to store energy in this air 'fuel'. With a simple launching chamber design, fly your own rocket into the air. You would never expect an air-powered machine to fly so far!

Infinity Mirror  

What do you get if you put two mirrors face to face? An infinity mirror! This simple yet stunning optical illusion will amaze friends and family and make you popular.  Create and take home your very own infinity mirror!

Light Catcher  

We can only see light; not touch it, so how then do we catch it? Come join us in the making of a fascinating device that allows you to get a hold of light and admire its beauty.

Light Painting 

Explore the fascinating effects of light energy and paint with light using long exposure photography. Choose a light source and draw an image in the air in order to capture the movement on a single photograph and produce a unique work of art. Take home your creation on a 4R photo.

Magic Wand  

Have you ever wanted to learn the essentials of electronics? Start building circuits with us. Learn the key electronic components and their functions. Experience the wonders of electronics by creating and designing your very own magic wand.

Wind Blades

How do we power our planet with renewable energy? If the concept of green energy sounds difficult and distant to you, look no further! Design your own wind blades for a wind turbine.  How much wind energy can you harvest with your design?

Wind Tubes 

Interested in building your own aircraft to challenge the wind of the vertical wind tubes? Come and explore the challenges of making your very own prototypes using simple materials such as paper, plastic containers and rubber bands.  Will your aircraft soar or crash?  Or will it successfully hover in a wind tube?
