Science Centre Singapore positions


The candidate will manage the full spectrum of the Learning & Development (L&D) function for the Centre. This includes working closely with the management to ensure that policies, processes and programs are developed, implemented, communicated and constantly administered in compliance with organisational objectives and with relevant laws/regulations; managing the L&D budget to ensure that learning needs are met within budgetary constraints; conducting learning needs analysis and develop an annual Total Learning Plan that incorporates needs identified from learning needs and other methodologies; evaluating the effectiveness of L&D programs to identify areas of improved performance for future L&D plans; working with external providers to develop training content in line with the needs of the Centre; and providing reports to management identifying L&D utilisation and initiatives, as well as proposals for new L&D activity/projects. Other areas of scope include conducting HR Orientation and reviewing Corporate Orientation Programme for new staff; administering and reviewing in-house scholarship/sponsorship programme; conducting Organisation Climate Survey (OCS) and follow up on implementation of Action Plan and taking on ad-hoc projects and assignments to contribute to the betterment of the department and/or organization.

From time to time, as part of job enrichment, you will also cover HR domains in the HR job spectrum as assigned by the Supervisor such as overseeing the operationalization of talent acquisition strategies including recruitment and undergraduate scholarship selection. You will also implement retention strategies to support the organisation’s brand as an Employer of Choice.

The ideal candidate should possess a degree and/or a professional qualification in Human Resources or Learning & Development or equivalent qualifications. You have exposure to training and development functions, preferably at a middle management level with minimum 3 years in managing the learning and development function within an organisation. He/she should possess a positive attitude, great drive and initiative to assist the HR Department to push the HR Development function to a strategic level.


As an Exhibit Engineer, you will work with a project team comprising scientists and designers to transform science principles into exhibits and experiences.  Specifically, you will develop material, technical and structural specifications for mechanical, electrical and electronic type exhibits. You may also build and test prototypes before the final exhibit is manufactured.

You will be required to prepare technical documents for Tender/Procurement exercises and conduct tender briefings for contractors together with your project team. You will also be involved in the supervision of the fabrication of exhibits to ensure conformance to your specifications as well as compliance to safety and risk standards. You may also be required to provide technical assistance to troubleshoot exhibit faults in collaboration with our exhibit maintenance team, as well as other duties directed.

The ideal candidate should possess a Degree in Engineering, Product, Game and/or User Design or equivalent. Fresh graduates may apply. Candidates practising in a similar field for a minimum of 3 years or have relevant experience in exhibit design and project management stand at an advantage.

The ability to gamify an experience and create easy intuitive user experiences is a key skill requirement. Experience in the use of workshop machinery and Computer Aided manufacturing as well the ability to use AutoCad, 3D Max and/or other design software will be an advantage. You should be willing to perform weekend duties including public holidays as and when required.
The candidate must be curious about the sciences and technology in general, and have a keen interest in exhibitions and design-related work.

A strong ability to think in three dimensions and good communication skills as well as being able to multi-task while working independently under pressure is essential.

As a technician, you will look after the maintenance and proper functioning of the exhibits in the Centre. You will be required to carry out periodic maintenance, troubleshoot and resolve electromechanical and computer-related faults that might arise with exhibits, in the Science Centre.

Ideally, the candidate should possess a NITEC in Mechatronics / Electronics or relevant experience. He should also be proficient in the use of simple test equipment in exhibit troubleshooting work and have at least 2 years of work experience in maintaining and servicing electronic, electro-mechanical equipment. Good knowledge of computer hardware and programming systems would be an advantage. Diploma holders will also be considered.

Rotating 5-day work shifts is a requirement, while duties on weekends and public holidays will be scheduled as and when required.

Ability to handle basic equipment and tools, like screw drivers and test pens will be very useful in carrying out the duties, and have a strong interest in taking apart or fixing things. Value qualities such as, being professional, with initiative, passion and quality service in all aspects of interaction with both internal and external customers that will make this role even more enjoyable.


As a science educator, you have to communicate science concepts clearly to students and public. You will be required to conduct education programmes ranging from visitor interaction and science demonstrations to enrichment classes, workshops and camps. You will also assist in the management of teaching facilities and be involved in other events organised by the Centre.

Ideally, the candidate should possess a Degree in Life Sciences (Molecular Biology or Genetics) and have a strong interest in other areas of science and technology. You must be confident and dynamic, eager to share your knowledge and be able to interact with people of all levels. Good English is essential and previous teaching experience would be an added advantage. You must be able to work on weekends and public holidays

The Centre may require temporary manpower from time to time. You should be able to contribute to areas of administration or customer service.

You should possess at least GCE 'A' Level and speaks good English. You should have a cheerful disposition and enjoy working with people.

Specifically for customer service positions, you must be able to work on shift and all weekends and public holidays. Some front-line or customer service experience will be an advantage.
